This is cutting the lift duct hole for my UH18, working on various parts of the 12r, and Bill and Marquis looking like actors in a bad space movie. They're painting the Yellow Dragon. Mike might be in there too, since he's actually doing the painting, but he has been in the paint tent the whole night.

IMG_0030.jpg This is an exercise in humiliation for me. I tried to make an elipse to cut the hole, figuring I could calculate the distance based on the cylinder of the duct and the angle of the deck. I did this in college and tried to reconstruct the method from here. The plans showed the actual dimensions of the elipse and the center point, but I wanted to get a "perfect" hole.
IMG_0031.jpg What I got were a lot of screw holes in the deck and a lot of lines on the deck too.
IMG_0032.jpg I figured out what I did wrong, but not in time for cutting the hole. In the end I marked the spot where the duct should intersect at the four cardinal points and adjusted my screws and the string length until they worked out.
IMG_0033.jpg The hole did work out very well, a good fit. However, in the end I made the back area wider anyway so I could get a more efficient lift system. This whole thing turned out to be brain exercise that was fun but not really very productive.
